About Stephen: Stephen Lazarus has resided in Southern California for 45 years, the last 20 in San Clemente. Over a span of 35 years, his woodworking endeavors evolved through building houses, furniture, spiral staircases, and unique, custom-designed doors into the realm of woodturning, an activity that helps define the words passion and excitement. His works have been displayed at many exhibitions, festivals, symposiums, competitions, galleries and fairs. Turning into a blank of wood and exposing its inner beauty in eye-catching, flowing geometry has won him many awards including first place in the Beverly Hills Woodcraft Festival and first place in the 2009 Orange County Fair open-form woodturning competition. He is most proud to have been an exhibitor at the award winning Laguna Beach Festival of Arts for 2010 through 2016. Through the years he has broadened his exposure in Southern California to show his work at the La Quinta Art Festival, Indian Wells Art Festival, La Jolla Art and Wine Festival, Santa Monica Contemporary Craft Show, the Laguna Beach Winter Fantasy at the Sawdust Festival and the Pasadena Contemporary Craft Marketplace. For 2017, he is happily returning as an exhibitor this summer at the Laguna Beach Festival of Arts and will be showing again in the fall at the Pasadena Contemporary Marketplace Show. He has an extensive collection of exotic woods from all corners of the world. A few he has harvested from local orchards and stands. He considers woodturning an addiction, and is not interested in any rehab or cure. His favorite compliment is the simple question, "How did he do that?" He strives to show the world creations that please the eye and stimulate the imagination. He hopes the fruits of his labours eventuate in "Wood for Thought"...( the name of his business). |
